As many of you will have heard and maywell already know, long
exposure to the sun can cause skin cancer. No, it WILL cause skin
cancer. Many people believe "Oh it won't happen to me" + "Only one
more hour in the sun, it won't hurt"
Wrong. The sun is deadly, it kills!
There are two main types of skin cancer: malignant
melanoma which is less common but more serious; and non-melanoma
skin cancer, which is very common but not so serious.
In 2009 in the UK, 2,633 people in the UK died from skin
cancer. Around 2,081 from malignant melanoma and 552 from
non-melanoma skin cancer.
Skin cancer is common and you must protect yourself against it,
regardless of your skin type is fair or dark, you need to protect
yourself with sun cream.
Like most cancers, skin cancer is more common with
increasing age, but malignant
melanoma is dispropotionately high in younger
people. More than one third of all cases of
malignant melanoma occur in people under 55.
SPF 15 as a minimum for sun lotion.
